Meet Divi!
The Feral-Hearted Girl Who Came Back with Her Pups
BE A PART OF THE DREAM: A LITTLE IS A LOT
The Feral-Hearted Girl Who Came Back with Her Pups
Divi’s story is one of survival, adventure, and a mother’s determination.
When she was just nine months old, a seemingly ordinary Christmas Day turned into an unexpected disaster. While on a forest walk with the other dogs, gunshots suddenly rang out—part of a Serbian tradition we hadn’t known about at the time. In the chaos, four of our dogs ran off in fear. Three of them eventually made their way home… but Divi never did.
I searched every single day for nine months, through ice storms and harsh winter conditions, convinced she was still out there somewhere. I never stopped looking for her.
Then, on September 25th, exactly nine months to the day after she vanished, I was driving near a friend’s house when I saw a German Shepherd chasing my car. Annoyed at first, I was about to drive on—until I glanced into my side mirror and saw Divi sprinting behind my car.
I slammed on the brakes and jumped out. She was overjoyed to see me, but there was something else—she was nursing.
We followed her, and what we found was incredible: she had dug out a den, just like a wild jackal would, and inside were four of her puppies. Not only that, but she had also taken in two additional puppies from an earlier litter, raising them as her own.
It took hours, but we managed to bring Divi, her four babies, and the two adopted puppies back home. One of her pups, Brizzet (called Breza) still live with us at the sanctuary today and is up for adoption, while her other pup, Irkey (called Sharky) found already her forever home.
Now around five years old, Divi is an incredible mix of wild spirit and loyal heart. She’s affectionate once she trusts you, but she carries her independent nature with pride.
By sponsoring Divi, you help us provide her with the care, space, and love she needs to thrive in the home she always belonged to.
