BE A PART OF THE DREAM: A LITTLE IS A LOT
Kiera is a beautiful, gentle soul who spent most of her life surviving on the streets. A livestock guardian dog—possibly a Sarplaninac —she was never meant to fend for herself, but that's how life unfolded for her. She lived as part of a small pack that a kind-hearted young woman had been watching over and feeding. Tragically, over time, three of the six dogs disappeared—likely victims of fear and misunderstanding from villagers concerned about their size and appearance.
Among the survivors were Kiera and Cheryno—inseparable companions who were eventually rescued together and brought into our care in early 2021. For Kiera, it may have been the first time she ever set foot inside a house. Despite her breed’s reputation for being aloof or wary, Kiera surprised us all—she turned out to be one of the gentlest, kindest dogs we’ve ever had the privilege to know. Soft, sweet, and endlessly affectionate, she quickly became a favorite among volunteers, visitors, and staff alike.
By April, we were calling her a natural therapy dog.
She adored people—especially children—and got along wonderfully with other dogs, cats, goats, horses, and everyone else she met. Whether it was calmly sitting for pets or offering quiet companionship, Kiera’s goal in life seemed to be making others feel safe and loved.
Cheryno was just as remarkable. Together, they quickly became two of the most beloved dogs we’ve ever had at the rescue—like fluffy teddy bears with an endless supply of love to give.
That August, we celebrated a joyful milestone: both Kiera and her best friend Cheryno were adopted together into a loving home. They joined a family that already included one of our other rescues, Hova, as well as two very special children who couldn’t wait to shower them with love. It felt like destiny—the perfect ending to a difficult beginning.
However, as life sometimes goes, things didn’t work out as we had all hoped. Due to unforeseen and personal family difficulties—completely unrelated to the dogs—Kiera and Cheryno were returned to our care three years ago. It was not their fault, and we know their previous family loved them deeply.
Sometimes love isn’t enough to hold things together, and in those moments, we’re grateful to be a safe place for dogs like them to return to.
Now, Kiera and Cheryno are looking for their true forever home—together. Their bond is unbreakable. They’ve survived the streets, found love, experienced heartbreak, and through it all, remained the same sweet, loyal, and affectionate companions they’ve always been.
They are looking for a home where they can be together, where their gentle hearts and loving nature will be cherished. If you’re looking for two devoted, fluffy best friends to bring warmth, calm, and endless affection into your life, Kiera and Cheryno just might be the perfect match.
After everything they’ve been through, they deserve nothing less than the very best.
